It’s that time of year again…

gorgeous strawberry print

Wimbledon's here again and with it, the usual connotations of summer - strawberries, warm sunny days, holidays and end of term. But somehow this year, Wimbledon hasn't had quite the same effect on me. I love my tennis and will watch avidly with fond memories of going there myself many years ago with a good friend from school. Maybe it's the bonanza of sport surrounding us at the moment that means Wimbledon doesn't stand quite so tall- this year it's sandwiched between the US Open Golf, Euro 2012 and the Olympics. Yay if you're a sports fan, groan if you're not. Maybe it's because I can't forget the image of all the bewildered people in the north east who found their homes flooded in the middle of June, their belongings ruined. Maybe it's because we're not sure of our own holiday this year and end of term isn't quite the same without little ones coming home all hot and sticky, desperate for summer and all its adventures to commence. Whatever the reason, Wimbledon feels a little different to me this year.

On a more positive note- the purple and green of Wimbledon reminds me of lavender fields and lush meadows - the rain can have a positive outcome! My garden has a very pink look about it this year - random rather then planned but it looks cheery with all that pink massed together. Passing by a garden today, I was struck by the colour combination of lavender and the natural accompanying green they had going on. Masses of lavender and blues alongside delicate. sometimes dazzling greens. Stunning. I leave the following pictures for your consideration - what do you think? Nothing like a garden to put a smile back on your face....

Lovely lavender...
